AN ENSEMBLE THAT PERFORMS MUSIC WRITTEN FOR VOICE AND GUITAR
From early ages to modern times the combination of wooden string instruments (Orpheus’s lyre, renaissance lutes, baroque guitars, guitar among others) and the human voice has been present in every man’s daily life, and has become one of the most common musical expressions, and vehicles for the humanity to express it’s deepest thoughts and feelings. Internationally recognized artists Angelica de la Riva,Soprano and Nilko Andreas Guarin, Classical Guitar, have performed extensively as soloists worldwide and have decided to join efforts to create this ensemble in order to explore and preserve this ancient, intimate and enchanting, nevertheless, humble chamber music ensemble. Their repertoire ranges from the Elizabethan Era, Classical and Romantic Periods to Contemporary Music. Their diverse programs are sung in English, Spanish, German, Portuguese and French and almost always include works for solo classical guitar. The Duo also commissions new works from emerging composers hoping to preserve the legacy of the format. Since their Carnegie Hall (Weill hall), debut in 2010, DE LA RIVA GUARIN DUO has been performing widely across two continents in halls such as The Strathmore in Bethesda, Jay Pritzker Pavillion at Millenium Park in Chicago as well as concerts in France, Switzerland, Brazil and Colombia, electrifying audiences of new comers for their welcoming and powerful performances as well as enchanting music lovers for their accuracy to style, unusual chemistry and elegant stage presence. Their debut CD is a compilation of pieces by composers from around the world such as F. Schubert, J. Dowland, A. Caldara, F. Mendelsohn, G. Faure as well as pieces inspired by their Iberian and Latin-American ancestry, including Bachianas Brasileiras no. 5 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-lobos and Spanish songs by Federico Garcia Lorca. Upcoming performances include concerts throughout the U.S., Brazil and Colombia.
